Israel: BYD’s First Total-Market Win
Israel holds a special place in BYD’s export story: the Atto 3 was the best-selling car in Israel outright in 2023 and 2024 — not the best-selling EV, the best-selling car — the first time an electric vehicle ever held that title anywhere BYD operates. Around 34,000 Atto 3s now run on Israeli roads, making Israel one of the densest BYD fleets per capita in the world.
Israel’s combination of high fuel prices, short driving distances, favourable EV taxation and rapid-adoption car culture made it the perfect early market. BYD is imported by Shlomo Motors, one of the country’s largest automotive groups.
The 2026 Reality Check
The easy phase is over. Chinese competition arrived in force — the Deepal S05 took the best-selling EV crown in 2026 — and Israel’s EV purchase-tax benefits have been progressively trimmed, raising effective prices. BYD’s answer is product: the substantially upgraded Atto 3 Evo and the cheaper Atto 2.
For buyers, competition is good news: BYD now prices and equips to fight, not to harvest.

The Atto 3 Evo Is a Bigger Deal Than the Name Suggests
Israel’s best-seller didn’t get a facelift — it got re-engineered: a newer platform, rear-wheel drive (with an AWD option for the first time), a 74.8 kWh battery (up from 60.5), an 800-volt electrical system, and DC charging roughly doubled to ~220 kW. At around NIS 155,000 it launched cheaper than the outgoing car’s original pricing — a direct response to Deepal and the new Chinese entrants. Full details in the Atto 3 guide.
Charging in Israel
- Israel’s compact geography makes EV life easy — almost nowhere is beyond a single charge, even in a small-battery car
- Home and workplace AC charging dominate; public DC networks (EV-Edge, Afcon, Gnrgy and others) cover the Route 6/coastal corridors well
- Apartment-dwellers should check building charging rights early — the common blocker, as in most dense markets
Warranty and Service
Shlomo Motors backs BYD with the standard structure (typically 6-year vehicle / 8-year battery — confirm per model at purchase) through its national service network — one of the more mature BYD service operations anywhere thanks to the sheer Atto 3 fleet size. That fleet is also why Israel is a useful market to watch: with 34,000+ of one model aging in hot conditions, Israeli owner groups are one of the best real-world sources on Blade Battery longevity outside China.
Should You Buy One?
The Atto 3 Evo at ~NIS 155k is arguably the strongest value BYD has ever offered in Israel — newer tech than the car that topped the sales charts, at less money, with a proven local service network behind it. Cross-shop the Deepal S05 and the flood of 2026 Chinese arrivals, but BYD’s service maturity in Israel is a genuine differentiator the newcomers can’t match yet.
