Most Common BYD App Problems
- App won’t load or crashes immediately
- Login fails — “incorrect password” or network error
- App connects but car doesn’t respond to remote commands
- Car location not updating
- Climate pre-conditioning not working
- Charging status not showing
- App works on one phone but not another
Step 1: Check App Version and Server Status
Before troubleshooting your phone or car, check whether the issue is on BYD’s end:
- Open your app store (App Store / Google Play) and check if a BYD app update is available. Install it.
- Check BYD’s official social media or owner forums for reports of server outages. App server issues occasionally cause widespread login failures.
Step 2: Force-Close and Restart the App
On iPhone:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to see open apps
- Swipe the BYD app upward to close it
- Wait 10 seconds, then reopen
On Android:
- Open Settings → Apps → BYD app
- Tap “Force Stop”
- Reopen the app
If this fixes the issue, it was a temporary glitch. If it recurs, continue below.
Step 3: Check Mobile Data / Wi-Fi Connection
The BYD app requires an internet connection. Test that your phone has working data:
- Open a browser and load a website
- If on Wi-Fi, try switching to mobile data (or vice versa)
- If your connection is behind a VPN, disable it — the BYD app can fail to connect through some VPNs
Step 4: Log Out and Log Back In
- In the BYD app, tap your profile/account icon
- Scroll to “Log Out” or “Sign Out”
- Log back in with your registered email and password
If you’ve forgotten your password:
- Use “Forgot Password” to reset via email
- Ensure you’re using the email address registered with your BYD dealer
Note: BYD account email addresses are case-sensitive in some regions. Try the exact format you used when registering.
Step 5: Clear the App Cache
On Android:
- Settings → Apps → BYD App → Storage
- Tap “Clear Cache” (do not tap “Clear Data” unless Step 6 is needed)
- Reopen the app
On iPhone:
- iOS doesn’t allow clearing individual app cache without deleting the app. Skip to Step 6 if needed.
Step 6: Uninstall and Reinstall the App
This resolves most persistent app issues:
- Uninstall the BYD app from your phone
- Restart your phone
- Download the BYD app fresh from the App Store or Google Play
- Log in with your credentials
Important: Uninstalling does not affect your account, car connection, or any data stored by BYD. Your account persists on BYD’s servers.
Step 7: Check the Car’s Connectivity
The BYD app communicates with the car via the car’s built-in SIM (mobile data connection). The car needs:
- Ignition off but in “accessory mode” or the car should be in any power state
- Mobile signal at the car’s location (underground car parks can cause issues)
Test: If you can see the car’s current location in the app, connectivity is working. If location shows your last parked location from hours/days ago, the car’s SIM connection may have dropped.
Fix for car SIM connection loss:
- Get in the car, start it fully (drive mode)
- Wait 2–3 minutes
- Turn off and lock the car
- Wait 5 minutes, then check the app
Step 8: Check Your BYD Account Region
If you purchased your car in one country and are now using the app in another, your app account may be registered to the wrong regional server:
- BYD Europe, BYD Australia, BYD Asia, and BYD Americas use separate app server regions
- Contact your selling dealer if you believe your account is registered to the wrong region
Remote Commands Not Working (Lock/Unlock/Climate)
If the app connects and shows car data, but remote commands (lock, climate pre-conditioning) don’t execute:
- Check subscription status: Some BYD connected services require an active subscription after an initial free period. Check in the app under Account → Services/Subscriptions.
- Check car power state: Some remote commands require the car to be in a low-power state (not charging in certain modes). Try when the car is simply parked and not plugged in.
- Wait and retry: Remote commands can take 30–90 seconds to execute. The app may show a spinner — wait for confirmation.
- Restart car infotainment: From inside the car, press and hold the power button on the central screen for 5–10 seconds to restart the head unit.
Still Not Working?
If none of the above resolves the issue:
- Contact your BYD dealer’s service team and report the specific error message you see
- In Australia, BYD Australia’s customer support line can help with connectivity issues
- In the UK, BYD UK can be reached through the official dealer network
